Chrismas:Jesus vs. Santa

Unit 6 Chrismas:Jesus vs. 1 Santa

Two foreign teachers are talking about which Christmas traditions 2 to follow...

Mary: Listen. Christmas is for praising 3 our Savior 4 , Jesus Christ. It's his birthday!

Joe: I disagree 5 . Furthermore 6 , he is your savior, not necessarily 7 mine or the rest of the school's. Anyway, the mid-winter holiday is older than Christ's birth.

Mary: You just don't get it. Christmas is for celebrating the birth of the Son of God! Jesus is the reason for the season!

Joe: I think you're making too much of this. Let's go with the Santa traditions because they are also about family and kindness, regardless 8 of religion 9 .

Mary: But Santa is just a figment 10 of everyone's imagination 11 ! Jesus is our Savior—Christmas is about Him!

Joe: Look, Santa personifies 12 what's best in people, and how the world could be if everyone stopped being so selfish 13 . Christmas should be about that.

Mary: Well, as the head teacher, I guess it's your decision to make.

Unit 3 The New iPod Nano

Francine is humming 1 a tune 2 with her earphones 3 on...
Sam: Francine! The bus is here!

Francine: What did you say? I couldn't hear you because I was listening to my favorite track 4 .

Sam: You've had those earphones on all day. I always knew you were a music lover, but this is ridiculous 5 !

Francine: There's nothing ridiculous about my new iPod Nano. It's just like the old iPod, but even smaller. Here—hold it while I load up this slide 6 show.

Sam: Wow! It's as thin as a pencil, and very light! How many songs does it hold?

Francine: I've uploaded 7 800 songs, and I still have room for thousands of photos.
Sam: Cool! The full-color display 8 is awesome 9 . Hey, that's a photo of last year's Christmas party. So...now that Christmas is almost here again, I think I know what I want....
Francine: All right. I won't let you down.

Sam: You mean you'll buy me a black 60 gigabyte 10 iPod that plays video? Thanks!
Francine: What?!

常常在寫論文時

作總結時

英文的標題

不知要下 Conclusion呢?   還是Summary呢?

兩者其實是有些微的差異的喔

As a young man on stage, few knew that Charlie Chaplin would become one of the most important people in movie history. Born in London in 1889, Charlie was a natural talent since both of his parents had been actors. In fact, his skills as a performer helped him survive the hardships of a very difficult childhood. His father died when Charlie was a child and his mother suffered from a mental illness that left her incapable of caring for her children. After the hospitalization of their mother, Charlie and his brother were forced to fend for themselves. They did so through performing on the stage.

Chaplin's comedic personality took him to America, where he became a great star of the silent screen in 1914. His signature character was the Tramp, a pauper with a little moustache, cane, and bowler hat. He paraded around as a gentleman, landing himself in all kinds of interesting situations. As the character of the Tramp, Chaplin made a stream of successful silent films.

In 1927, talkies, or films with synchronized sound, were introduced. Nevertheless, Chaplin continued to make silent films, and in fact, some of his best. He had an amazing ability to blend humor with a bit of emotion without uttering a single line of dialogue. Moreover, although seemingly simple on the surface, Chaplin's films had strong political undertones. In Modern Times, a movie filmed during the Depression, the Tramp is a factory worker struggling in an industrial society. In The Great Dictator, Chaplin made an even bolder move by taking on the role of a leader similar to Adolf Hitler and speaking on film for the first time.

The Arctic Ocean's sea ice has shrunk to its second smallest area on record, close to 2007's record-shattering low, scientists report.

The ice is in a "death spiral" and may disappear in the summers within a couple of decades, according to Mark Serreze, an Arctic climate expert at the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado.

Cindy: This restaurant isn't clean. Look Bruce. There's a hair in my soup again.
Bruce: I don't think it's the restaurant's fault. Cindy, I'm losing my hair.
Cindy: That's why the sink at your house is always plugged.
Bruce: There's another thing too. You know why I always want to sit close to the TV? Well, it's because I wear glasses. I just haven't worn them in front of you yet.
Cindy: Don't worry so much. My dad is bald and has glasses. I prefer guys like that.
Bruce: You're the first person to ever say that to me.

Helen Jonsen 09.12.08, 12:01 AM ET

First it began as little night pains in the leg, the kind most parents associate with growing pains. We told our little girl, "Don't worry, it will go away," and the next morning it seemed fine. She ran and played and enjoyed the days of summer, like her friends did.
