HONG KONG -
For Chrysler’s incoming owners, the price apparently looks right. Seeking to recover lost ground quickly in the small car market, the struggling automaker is going ahead with plans to market a Chinese-made vehicle in the U.S. that should sell for significantly less than Chrysler's current cheapest model.

At a signing ceremony in Beijing on Wednesday between Chrysler Group and Chinese partner Chery Automobile, Chery President Yin Tongyao said that Chrysler would begin selling a rebranded Chery A1 hatchback in North America in the first quarter of 2008, according to Bloomberg News. However, Chrysler chief Tom LaSorda said its Chinese-made cars wouldn't hit the U.S. for two and half years.

The controversial Chrysler-Chery alliance was approved by the board of German parent DaimlerChrysler earlier this year, despite strong opposition from labor. However, there were questions as to whether the deal would go forward following the agreement in May to sell 80.1% of Chrysler to Cerberus Capital.
