call an ambulance 叫救護車
「ambulance」意指「救護車」，而「叫救護車」就是「call an ambulance」，反之，若要請對方「派」救護車，動詞就用「send」，例如「send a fire engine」（派一輛消防車過來）；遇到急難時有幾句英文一定要牢記於心，像是「call the police」（報警）、「call a doctor」（叫醫生）。另外補充，「送（某人）去急診」的英文就是「get sb. into emergency」。

「Heimlich maneuver」是一種急救法，又稱「abdominal thrust」，用於救治發生哽噎（choking）的情況，若患者尚意識清楚（conscious），主要的急救步驟如下：
1. 施救者站在傷患後面，一手握拳（make a fist）成虎口狀貼在傷患的腹部（abdomen），抵住胸腔（ribcage）下方，另一手則放在拳頭上並緊握。
2. 重覆做快速往內、向上壓迫的動作，直到傷患將異物吐出。
常見的急救法：
artificial respiration / mouth to mouth resuscitation （口對口）人工呼吸
CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) 心肺復甦術
處理燒燙傷的動作：
（類似台灣的沖、脫、泡、蓋、送）
stop burning 停止繼續燒、燙傷
maintain breath 維持呼吸
examine 檢查（傷勢）
cool 冷卻
cover 覆蓋
carry 送醫

「fist」在這裡當名詞用，意指「拳頭」，因此「make a fist」就是「握拳」，和「fist」相關的用法很多，舉例如下：
