Mark and Janice are at a clothing store.

Mark: I really like this green T-shirt.
Janice: It fits like a glove and looks great on you. But I doubt if it is preshrunk1.
Mark: That's what it's labeled.
Janice: Good. I know you always toss everything in the dryer2. If the shirt shrinks, it won't fit you that well.
Mark: You're right, but I think I'm still going to buy it.
Janice: OK. Do that and let's go get some lunch.

馬克和珍妮絲在服飾店裡。

馬　克：我好喜歡這件綠色的運動衫。
珍妮絲：它很合身，而且你穿起來又蠻好看的。但我懷疑它是不是有先經過預縮處理。
馬　克：它是這麼標示的。
珍妮絲：很好。我知道你一向都把所有東西往烘衣機裡丟。這件上衣如果縮水，就不那麼合身了。
馬　克：妳說的對，但我想我還是會把它買下來。
珍妮絲：好啊。那就把它買下來，然後我們去吃午餐。



Dialogue B

One week later…

Mark: Look at this shirt! Can you believe it is the same one I bought last week?
Janice: No way! It looks like it would fit your little brother.
Mark: I only washed it once.
Janice: Wasn't it supposed to be preshrunk?
Mark: I thought so, too.
Janice: Well, the shirt is obviously defective3.
Mark: I'm going to call the store and file a complaint.
Janice: Good idea. You should try and see if they'll give you your money back.

一個星期後……
