Joyce has something on her mind. Brian intends to understand what her problem is.

Brian:Hey, what's wrong? You look pale. Is everything O.K.?

Joyce:Well, everything's fine, I guess.

Brian:You guess? There must be something wrong. Come on! Tell me. Maybe we can work this out together.

Joyce:It's about Sam.
是關於 Sam。

Brian:Sam? Sam Williams?
Sam? Sam Williams?

Joyce:Yeah, Sam Williams.
為是啊,Sam Williams。

Brian:So what's wrong with him? Oh, don't tell me the rumor going on is true.

Joyce:No! What rumor?

Brian:Jenny told Frank, Frank told Paul, Paul told Pamela, bla bla bla that there might be something going between you two.

Joyce:Oh, my! This is what I'm worried about. You see, the way Sam talks to me gives everybody certain illusions. He always calls me "honey", "sweetheart", and so on. It gives everyone the impression that he likes me or something, but we didn't have an affair. Maybe I should talk to him about it and tell him to stop it. It is really disrespectful and not to mention it absolutely pisses me off!

1. work out解決

例:Tell me. Maybe we can work this out together.

I know we disagree on many points, but I believe we can work these out.

2. rumor (n.) 謠言

例:Oh, don't tell me the rumorgoing around is true.

Rumor has it that Mrs. Brown will be our English teacher next semester.

英文當中常用「It is rumored that + 子句」或「Rumor has it that + 子句」來表達「據傳聞…」

3. illusion (n.)

The way Sam talks to me gives everybody certain illusions.
   (Sam

It is so hot that I can see an illusion of water on the streets.

4. affair (n.)

It gives everyone the impression that he likes me or something, but we didn't have an affair.

It is rumored that Amy's husband is having an affair with her sister.

It is really disrespectful and not to mention it absolutely pisses me off

He didn't remember my birthday, and that really pissed me off.

時,可用「人 + be動詞 + pissed off + by + 某物/ 某人」的句型,或是「某事/ 某人 + piss + 人(受詞)+ off」的句型。
