Last Sunday, I went fishing with my father. Once we got to the dock, we started preparing everything we needed. However, putting worms on the fish hooks was the last thing that I wanted to do. I thought worms were disgusting so I asked my father to do me a favor and put one on for me.

Later on, we walked over to the lake and started fishing. I waited and waited but my fishing rod
stood still. Soon, I felt so bored that I actually fell asleep. My father woke me up and told me to be patient.

Suddenly, something
tugged hard at my fishing rod and it almost slipped out of my hands. I finally got control of the rod and was surprised. What I caught was a toilet seat instead of a fish. At that moment, I realized how seriously the water had been polluted.

Dan meets up with Kathy the next day during their coffee break, and asks about her possible new position.

Dan: Hey! How are you feeling today?
Dan:

Kathy: Hi! I feel a lot better. Thanks for asking. I've scheduled a meeting with the HR manager to discuss the possibility of transferring to the marketing department.

Dan: That's fantastic. I really hope that you get it. When will you meet her?

Kathy: Tomorrow at 11:00. I'm so nervous. She told me that I'm the only one that has shown an interest in transferring to the marketing department, so I think that I have a good chance.

Dan: What about the salary? You won't be making any commission in the marketing department.
Dan:

Kathy: Yeah, I know. I'll ask her about the remuneration package tomorrow during our meeting. There is no commission for sure, but the salary will be higher and I won't have to worry about making enough to pay my bills.

Dan: I guess that you're just not cut out to be a salesperson. I don't care about the base salary at all. I'm just here to make big money on commission!

Kathy: Then you should give me your base salary if you don't care about it!
Kathy:

Dan: Ha! You must be feeling better now. I see that you've gotten your sense of humor back!
Dan:

It's six o'clock and everyone is leaving the office. Dan comes out of the boss's office and catches up with Cindy, who is just about to get in the elevator.

Dan: Hey! You'll never guess what just happened to me.
Dan:

Cindy: Whoa! You startled me! Did you just win the lottery or something?
Cindy:

Dan: Not quite. I just got a promotion. As of Monday morning, I'll be the new sales director.

Cindy: Wow! That's great news. Congratulations!
Cindy:

Dan: It's just the challenge I've been looking for.
Dan:

Cindy: Well, I guess all of your problems are solved and the job hunt is off!
Cindy:

Dan: Yeah, this promotion has really killed two birds with one stone. Now, I have a more challenging job and a better salary!

Cindy: I'm really happy for you. I'm sure that you'll do a fine job.
Cindy:

Dan: Thanks for your encouragement. I can't wait to tell my wife.
Dan:

Cindy: I hope that I get promoted someday.
Cindy:

Cindy: Because I'm happy with my job here. I don't find my work boring at all.

Dan: Keep working hard and maybe one day you'll get promoted to sales manager. I've invited all the sales staff to come out for happy hour to celebrate. Wanna come? It's my treat.

Cindy: Sure, sounds great! Let's go!
Cindy:

You betcha.就是I will bet you.

A: Will you help me with my presentation today?
B: You betcha! I love giving presentations.

Cindy goes by Dan's office to drop off some paperwork. They begin discussing Dan's job hunt again.

Cindy: So... did you send your resume to all of those companies you found on the Web site?

Dan: I sent about ten. Like I said before, I'm just curious about what jobs are out there. I'll be more serious about looking for a new job after I receive my year-end bonus!

Cindy: Chinese New Year isn't for another four months! Sometimes you have some strange ideas.
Cindy:

Dan: My wife told me the same thing last night.
Dan:

Cindy: Well, you know what they say. All great minds think alike!
Cindy:

Dan: Whatever!!!! Anyway, I'll just wait and see if I get any responses from the ten resumes that I've already sent, and then decide what to do from there.

Cindy: It seems like you have everything planned. Oh, by the way. Did you see the job posted on the bulletin board in the lobby? There's an opportunity to transfer to the office in Shanghai.

Dan: No, I didn't see it. I'll take a look at it on my way out the office.
Dan:

Cindy: It's a sales position selling the same products.
Cindy:

Dan: Oh, forget about it then! Why don't you apply for it?
Dan:

Cindy: Because I'm happy with my job here. I don't find my work boring at all.

Dan: Yeah, but wait until you've worked here for ten years like me!!!!!
Dan:

Cindy meets up with Dan the next day during their coffee break. She asks him how his job search is going.

Cindy: Good morning, Dan. Did you check out that Web site I told you about yesterday?
Cindy:Dan,

Dan: Yeah, there were so many sales positions posted on it. I'm going to send my resume to about twenty companies.

Cindy: That's great! I'm sure that you can find a better paying job since you're the top salesperson in the office.

Dan: It's not only about the money. I also need something that is more challenging and not so boring. I'm just sick of doing the same thing day after day.

Cindy: But I think that all sales positions are the same. Is selling one product ever more interesting than selling another?

Dan: Of course, it is. If you were a car enthusiast, then selling cars would be a lot more interesting than selling photocopiers.

Cindy: Well...I guess you have a point there.
Cindy:

Dan: I'll probably wait and look more seriously after Chinese New Year anyway.
Dan:

Cindy: Why wait until then?
Cindy:

Dan: Because I'm expecting a big bonus this year!!!!!
Dan:

Journey to the Bugs with Nigel Marven

In the jungles and deserts of Africa, people can take safaris and see wild animals in their natural habitat. This month, National Geographic Channel takes a safari in a place a lot closer to home—a backyard garden. Nigel Marven leads his crew on this expedition right outside the door. However, this is no ordinary journey. The three explorers have been
shrunk with the help of CGI. Instead of watching animals in the wild, Nigel will be observing insects.

Humans
encounter a lot of trouble when they are the size of a fingernail. Nigel weighs less than a pea and is in constant danger of becoming a meal for bigger insects. Normally, a millipede looks like a harmless creature to humans. However, for the micro-sized crew, a millipede is of great danger due to its deadly fluid.

During Safari: Journey to the Bugs with Nigel Marven, the team almost
got attacked by ants and caught in spider webs. The three tiny scientists not only had to worry about giant bugs, but also monitor their own health conditions all the time.

Dan and Cindy are taking their lunch break together at a small cafe close to their office building. Dan takes out the newspaper while they are waiting to be served.

Cindy: So…anything interesting in the newspaper today?
Cindy:

Dan: I'm not reading the news. I'm looking at the classifieds.
Dan:

Cindy: Oh. Are you looking for something to buy?
Cindy:

Dan: No, I'm looking at the employment ads.
Dan:

Cindy: Why? Are you looking for a new job?
Cindy:

Dan: Well, I'm just curious to see what's out there. I'm getting bored with my job and I'd like to find a job with a higher salary and better benefits.

Cindy: Have you tried searching for jobs on the net? I don't think that the newspaper is a good place to search for jobs.

Dan: You're right. I'll surf the net tonight when I get home.
Dan:

Cindy: Have you ever searched on jobhunt.com? A lot of my friends have found jobs from that Web site.
Cindy:你有搜尋過 jobhunt.com 嗎?

Dan: No, I've never heard of that site before. I'll write it down and check it later tonight. Thanks a lot!

Cindy: No problem. Let me know if you find anything interesting!
Cindy:
