Let's travel abroad

[at Check-in]
Check-in Agent: I need your passports and tickets, please.
Gina: It's all here.
Check-in Agent: There are two of you traveling?
Gina: Yes. And we are checking in two bags.
Check-in Agent: Please 1)place them on the scale. Let me help you…
Gina: Thanks.
Check-in Agent: There is a 20-kilogram limit now, and this bag is over by eight kilos.
Gina: Oh, no! Can I take some things out of the bag and place them in a 2)carry-on?
Check-in Agent: Sure. But you're only allowed one carry-on per person and that one looks full.
Gina: I guess I'll just pay the overweight luggage fee then.

Interviewer:Do you work well under pressure?

Kevin:Sorry, I don't follow you.

Interviewer:Can you cope with stress and pressure if things get extremely busy?

It's 5:30 and Mike and Janice are meeting to discuss the interviews that were held earlier on today.

Mike: So, how did the interviews go today? Find anyone interesting?
Mike:

Janice: Today went much better than yesterday. I was beginning to think that all accountants were boring.

Mike: So, how many people do you have on your short list of applicants now?
Mike:

Janice: Well, I have three so far. That's three more than I had yesterday! How about you? How did it go?

Mike: Not bad at all. I have three more on my short list, and I think I'm going to have to make some tough decisions.

Janice: Yeah, it's always difficult making these kinds of decisions. Sometimes I feel like I'm playing God.

Mike: What do you mean by that?
Mike:

Janice: I mean that, if I decide to hire someone or not, my decision can really affect a person's life.

Mike: Okay. I know what you mean. I hate it when people tell me that they are unemployed. Then I wonder if they have a family or not.

Janice: Our job is tough sometimes.
Janice:

Mike: I guess that we should just do our job and hire the best person.
Mike:

Janice: Yeah, I guess you're right.
Janice:

Mike: Let's meet up tomorrow at the same time.
Mike:

Janice: Sure. Have a safe trip home.
Janice:

Mike: You, too. See ya tomorrow.
Mike:

Mike: How many interviews do you have scheduled for today?
Mike:

Janice: Let me see... I have three in the morning and six in the afternoon. How about you?

Mike: I have four this morning and seven later on in the afternoon.
Mike:

Janice: We'll both have our hands full this week! Our deadline is Monday, so we'll have to make our final decisions by the end of the week.

Mike: Yeah, I know. My schedule is totally full. I've received so many resumes and CVs, and I've had a really difficult time deciding which applicants I wanted to interview.

Janice: I understand what you mean. We're in the same boat!
Janice:

Mike: How many did you receive?
Mike:

Janice: I received about twenty-five by mail and another fifteen by e-mail. That's not to mention the old ones that I've kept on file.

Mike: Well, I guess we've got our work cut out for us. Time to get a large cup of Joe...it's going to be a long day.

Janice: Yeah, a long day and a long week! Have a nice day.

Mike: You, too. Don't work too hard!
Mike:

你在 full of it!

You're full of it.”。

You're Into What?

by Marcus Maurice

During the Tang Dynasty, girls as young as five had bandages wrappedund their feet to inhibit the growth to no longer than six inches. _(1)_ Later in their lives, women who had endured foot binding suffered from terrible infections or were unable to walk even short distances. Women with bound feet wore lotus shoes. These delicate shoes were embroidered by the woman and attested to the smallness of her feet. Many men became fascinated with these small-footed women. _(2)_

Fetishes have been around forever. However, it wasn't until the late 1800s that it was identified and named. _(3)_ Since then, people who have serious fetishes for strange things have been thought of as mentally ill. Most people with fetishes believe they have had them since they could remember, but some can trace it back to a certain date or event. Psychologists have varying theories about why some people develop fetishes, _(4)_.

To treat people with severe fetishes, doctors use cognitive therapy and psychoanalysis. The former focuses on suppressing the patient's present-day desires, _(5)_. Prescription drugs that limit the amount of testosterone in males and estrogen in females also help. These medications enable patients to ignore their fetish and regain control of their lives.

Fetishes are normal as long as they don't cross the line. When it rules a person's life and puts others in danger, professional help is the answer.

(A) As a result, bound feet and lotus shoes became a fetish for some men.
(B) while the latter tries to figure out what caused the problem during childhood
(C) In 1877, French psychologist Alfred Binet introduced the word fetish to the world meaning admiration of an inanimate object.
(D) but most believe that imprinting, an event during childhood that has stayed in the mind, is to blame
(E) This barbaric process became popular all over China because people believed that the smaller the foot, the more beautiful the girl.

Dan: Thank you. The big order from that German company really helped me this month.

Lisa: You have been the top salesperson for six months in a row, and I would like to give you a twenty thousand dollar bonus, which will be added to your next pay.

Dan: Wow! I'm speechless! Thanks a lot.
Dan:

A Cock, scratching for food for himself and his hens, found a precious stone;

on which he said: “ If your owner had found thee, and not I, he would have taken thee up,

and have set thee in thy first estate, but I have found thee for no purpose.

I would rather have one barleycorn than all the jewels in the world. “

Kathy meets up with Dan in the elevator on Monday after work.

Dan: Hi, Kathy. How was your first day in the marketing department?

Kathy: It went pretty well. We all have to work in a team, and all of my new colleagues are very nice. The atmosphere is a lot better here than it is in the sales department.

Dan: I'm glad to hear that you are happy in your new stress-free environment.
Dan:

Kathy: Enough about me. How are things going with you? Make any big sales this month?

Dan: Yeah, I just received a big order today from a German company. They are already one of my clients, but they just tripled their order on a permanent basis.

Kathy: Wow! So your commission from them has just tripled also?
Kathy:

Dan: Yeah, and I didn't even have to lift a finger. I love this job!
Dan:

Kathy: Well, I don't miss it a bit. I remember nights when I couldn't even sleep because I kept thinking about making a sale. I think that you have to have a certain kind of personality to be successful in sales.

Dan: Well, you can sleep well from now on. I always sleep well. I dream every night about making millions of dollars!

Kathy: I think that money is all you ever think about! See you tomorrow.
Kathy:
